REFLECTOR: Elevator/fuselage gap

John,  

I had a similar problem. More on one side than the other.. but the fit was 
just not right. 
What I did was:  

Take some posterboard and tape it to the elevator so that it contours to the 
shape of the aileron.   

Then, fill the open end with pour foam and let it cure. (put packing tape on 
the inside of the posterboard so that you can remove it from the foam!!!!!) 

Fine sand the pour foam to the final shape and taper you want. 

Slurry the pour foam and cover it with a course of fine bid... use peal ply 
to make it fair in nicely. 

Sand out about 1/8" of the inboard edge of the pour foam... recessing it 
within the fine bid...and fill that with a dry layer of Micro...let dry. 

Final sand to get the taper and spacing you want against the edge of the 
fuselage... then close off the end with a ply of fine bid. 

I ended up with about 3/16" on one side.. and almost a half inch inboard of 
the inner hinge to make it look right.
