1) They are AMAZINGLY bright.
2) If you mount a normal halogen (or xenon) lamp on your front strut and 
land or taxi with the light on, it won't last very long, the vibration 
kills the filament.
3) I sell PAR 36 and 46 HID, D1 (third generation) 35 w lamp kits with 
ballast and cable for $350 plus shipping. The cable can be 1 meter or 1/2 
meter.
4) If you want one as a taxi light there are other shapes available with a 
wide beam spread (like a 2x5" rectangular) but for a landing light I'd only 
use the PAR, it's spot is much tighter than any of the others.  The PAR 36 
is only available as a spot, the 46 can come as a spot or a flood.
