Blow by will also turn color of the oil from a golden brown to deep black.
So if you change the oil and 2 op hours later it's black, you have blow by.
In extreme situations is can pressurize the case. I had the problem with my
Lycoming IO360 B1E that led to an overhaul.

Blow by is when combustion gases escape past the rings.  The compression
test is an indicator of the relative amount of blow by.  The lower the
compression, the more the blow by.
