Unless, you're landing on a wet runway, get on the brakes good, hit a puddle and hydroplane, the brakes lock up the wheels, you come out of the puddle, and BAM! Both tires blown.

Joe, I assumed you were joking as was I.  I also was taking was a jab at the fact that neither brake has the power to lock up the wheels.  To me, that makes them marginal. The force required to operate them is very high.  Reminds me of some of the early auto disk brakes, before they all had vacuum assist.  All of  that said, they still the best option available.

But which costs more to replace - brake pads or tires?  Not to mention the built in rumble strips when a tire is flat spotted.

It the brakes were really effective, we would be able to transfer the heat to the big heat sink called the runway.  Lock up the brakes and the heat goes to interface between the tires and the runway.  There you go.  Lock the brakes and save the pads.
