REFLECTOR: [SPAM] Re: Complex

I find it interesting that the FAA makes no mention of speed brakes and slats and other "aerodynamic devices" in the definition of complex, singling out the flaps that are common even on training airplanes like the C-152.

However ...
a Complex or High Performance is not legally required for Experimental aircraft!  Go figure!
Velocity, Inc. insists that candidates for the Velocity Flight Transition Training Program have either a Complex or High Performance endorsement (or have high performance time before the endorsement(s) came into effect, i.e. 'grandfathered' time) because this makes good common sense.

 *   A retractable landing gear<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undercarriage> (land aircraft only; a seaplane is not required to have this)
 *   A controllable pitch propeller (which includes constant speed propellers<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constant_speed_propeller>)
 *   Movable or adjustable flaps<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flap_%28aircraft%29>. (we have no flaps)
