A Canadian Fellow put a turboprop with five blade prop on a Velocity a
few years back.  He developed fuel exhaustion in San Diego and crashed
short of the runway killing both the pilot and potential buyer.
Beautiful plane with side stick controls and Corvette Seats it survived
the belly landing well.  Turbines drink fuel voraciously. I am building
a Turbine Legend with a Walters 700+ shaft HP and expect 35 to 40
gallons/hr. @ 350 mph.  If you go turbine you must go with Oxygen and
fly high >15k ft. for efficiency.  Two hour range in a Velocity with a
VNE of 200 kts to avoid flutter will give you terrific climb and
terrific fuel burn.  An IO-540 will get you 185 knts at 24 sq. @ 15
gallons/hr and 4.5 hrs of transport.  The Continental slightly better.
A Supercharged engine is another choice.

Matt,

I am thinking about going turboprop on my plane.  I have looked at the
250, 
PT-6, Innodyne and any others that I can get info on.  I would be
interested 
in any info you may have on available engines.  I am building an XLRG
and I 
am about a year away from installing an engine so I have plenty of time
yet.
