Watch your CHT's.
For the day you do the change, first take a test flight at the temp and
pressure that will be similar to the later flight. Land, and change
your timing. Go flying again, keeping an eye on the CHT's. If you have
one or two cylinders read abnormally high, you are getting into detonation.
All of your CHT's should go up a little, and all of your EGT's should go
down a little when you advance the timing.
Likewise, if you have a problem cylinder getting hot, try retarding the
timing.
