REFLECTOR: FG nose strut

FG drivers,

 

The manual says to cut a 2" hole behind the canard bulkhead for the nose
strut. However, the top of my nose strut is a little over 4" wide due to
the cross-tube!  Also, with the large gusset welded below the cross-tube
this becomes too large to fit inside 2". So, the strut would have to be
inserted from the top!  For maintenance/inspection reasons, the strut
should be inserted/removed from the bottom. So, I was planning to cut
more of an oval just big enough (~3") to allow inserting the strut from
the bottom.  Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy?  What did you do?
