REFLECTOR: Canard cover

Pat,

If you have the usual arrangement, in which the canard cover is attached to
the top of the canard, but has no fasteners to the rest of the fuselage, I
would expect to see a bit of movement as the canard flexes.  This does not
imply a problem, just the normal movement we should reasonably expect with
flexible structures.

If think you are going to add a few small fasteners to prevent the observed
movement, be aware that they may need to take a surprising amount of load;
as you stiffen the structure, it "attracts load".

Maybe I didn't explain that very well. At 200KIAS, the
top surface of my canard cover sticks up about 1/8"
above the top surface of the fusulage in the middle.
The cover is over 1/2" thick. The removable dog house
(4-5" up from the canard) is a common mod which has
proven to be structurally sound. However, if I'm the
only one experiencing this, I'll need to look into it
further. More fasteners were on my list as a speed
mod.
