That is good data, and I think it is useful for comparing different
certified engines because they are all on the same basis - stripped down.
As a caution; it doesn't include mount, oil cooler, plumbing, baffles,
ancillaries (like alternator), etc. For the auto engines we don't know what
the basis is, and likely varies from one to another. BTW; the weight listed
for the Franklin 220 hp 6A350 is clearly a typo.
As another data point: On a comparable basis, including re-drive, coolant,
and radiator; my 265 hp 3-rotor is 348 lbs, a bit less than comparable power
IO540.
What I can gather, the all-up weight (minus prop) for a Lyc IO-360 is over
350#, and the 540 is well over 400#. The all-up weight for my completed
installation is 416 lbs (and I weighed everything). On a power/weight
ratio, my installation is at least comparable to, or a bit lighter than a
certified aircraft engine, and the c.g. is closer to the firewall, making
the moment comparable to a 200 hp IO360.
Oh, d___! I just realized I didn't include the weight of the oil filter:-)
