REFLECTOR: CS Spar install questions

Tony,

I called the factory on this one.  It confused me as well.  I spoke with
Brendan.

The lines they are referring to are mentioned in 6.9.2, paragraph 2.  "On
the front side of the firewall mark a line 1" inboard of the notch."  This
is the line referred to later.

The structural adhesive will go on the bottom of the spar that will be in
contact with the gear boxes and then 3" vertically on the left and right.
Not across the top and bottom.  The adhesive is really there just to hold
the spar in place until you get the triax reinforcements in.  Paragraph 7
says "You will need to mix up about 1 cup on Structural adhesive with Flox
in order to bond in the spar."  This is about right.  If you did it
horizontally, you would need much more.

I specifically asked if it might not be better to just bond the entire spar
surface to the firewall.  He said they get the question a lot.  It won't
hurt anything.  It won't help anything.  It will add weight.

As for the bid tapes.  Originally Velocity did not have gear boxes.  They
were molded parts that the Swings came up with.  It is a great idea.  Before
the boxes, you would have mounted the spar and placed bid tapes all the way
across the top and bottom of the spar.  Then you would have laid up lots of
triax in the pockets between the firewall and the gear bulkhead to do the
job the gear boxes do now.  I believe the manual needs to be updated for
this with regard to the bid tapes.  Put the bid tape all the way across the
top, and across the bottom in between the gear boxes.

across the whole width of the cs spar and stopping 3 inches from the
fuselage side?

  Section 6.9.3 says to apply two plies of 3in by 41in BID along the top and
bottom of the cs spar/ fuselage. The top looks OK but how do you do that
along the bottom when the cs spar is on top of the gear pockets? All I could
do would be under the cs spar in the gap between the gear pockets - about 23
inches. Am I misunderstanding something here?
