Shawn,
Did you try Jeppesen new Skybound system?  A friend and I just purchased the
new USB data card downloader for $125 ($62.50 each) for our Garmin 430's.  A
one time update via internet is only $125 vs the $215 when purchasing the
update via data card.  (Only one download per 430, but it is cheaper than
buying updates via datacard.)

I looked at the Jepp site but couldn't confirm that it supports the 250 XL.
But our Skybound had slots for three different kinds of cards.  Give Jepp a
call.   You might be able to share the cost of the Skybound hardware with a
local Garmin owner.
