REFLECTOR:NACA inlet shape

My NACAs are working well - or actually, my engine heads are running cool
IO360 - 350-360 deg F in cruise and leaned, the max head temp I have seen
this summer is 380 after a 5000' climb. My oil temps are running 210 in
cruise and 220 during climb during this hot weather.

I am really pleased with how well my systems are working. Still throwing
out a bit more oil than I'd like to see - 1 quart in 5-6 hours. I didn't run
it hard enough/or still had some STP in it protecting the cam for initial
start after laying up for a couple of years after the test stand at Don
George's.

But I'm still running mineral oil at 80 hours. I am planning to change to
15-50 in the next week or so.

And the Garmin 430 and Navaid worked wonderfully during my trip to Oshkosh
and back and then down to Hilton Head this past weekend. I flew about an
hour in the clouds and did two localizer approaches in the clouds.
Terrific!!!

Ronnie

| Jerry,
|
| If you don't have the top naca inlets pre-molded into
| your fuselage, the factory sells a kit w/ templates
| and instructions to do just what you are proposing. Be
| sure to get the kit for you engine (they used to offer
| two different sizes). They also sell runners that fit
| these nacas.
| The aspect ratio of the opening is not optimal, but
| rather a reasonable compromise for our application.
| Unlike the ramp angle (which is good), the aspect
| ratio is not as critical for good naca efficiency. The
| factory's nacas are working well in the field.
| It's the "nacas" up front (oil/vent) that don't
| really work as such. Basically, they are "ram air
| scoops" disguised as "nacas".
