Brian,

I have had the generator on my C150, and the alternators on my Cherokees rebuilt by a guy down the road. He owned an automotive electric shop and was a pilot. The Old Cessna products were made by AC Delco. The Piper products were made by Chrysler. He said the only difference between the aircraft & automotive versions, is that the charging lead was a threaded stud (instead of a plug in type), and the part number on the tag. When he would rebuild aircraft ones, he always made sure those two things were on the unit, even if he replaced everything else. Had great luck with those units, and a cost of less than $100.00 each.
The 65A alternator on my V is a Denso unit.
I'm sure you can do better than what you have now.

Best, Kurt.

So, I replaced the voltage regulator with an off the shelf replacement that fits perfectly. I flew around with it, and decided to upgrade my spare alternator too. I removed the cover and found that a stator lead had burned through where it is held down by a screw.
