Good idea. I checked the FAA DB again. I found that if a plane isn't using an aircraft engine, 99% of the time the FAA lists the engine as "Unknown/Experimental" or just leaves the data field blank. For the engines that they do list, they only keep track of type (piston, turbo-prop, jet) and horsepower or thrust. They don't have a place in their public database that indicates number of pistons.
