Hi Keith...

So, the canard creates more drag to begin with and lowers the drag with the elevator to drop the nose for level flight...More elevator deflection the faster you go...

I thought the way the canard was set was to have a lot of angle of attack on the canard relative to the main wing so it would stall first...

On a conventional aircraft, in order to lower the nose, you must increase the lift generated by the elevator/aft wing, therefore increasing drag. The opposite is true for a forward wing/elevator. In general...........Does it take more energy to keep the nose of a canard aircraft down with elevator trim, or to keep the nose of a conventional aircraft down with elevator trim...?
