Some thoughts on this progression,
One point mentioned a few times is Very important, and mostly correct. That would be once a tower closes, it most likely isn't coming back. More so with the many contract towers. They are partially funded by the FAA, the rest by the State & municipality they serve. These types of towers have already been abandoned by the FAA, except for some support funding. Losing the rest is not a concern to the FAA (my opinion based on over 30 years in the FAA).
In my opinion, the only way a tower like that can come back on line, is if the State/municipality chooses to fund the rest of the contract, or if there is a publicized accident. The FAA loves crisis management... Wait til there is an accident, and address the problem that has been known for years. That is how all those weird new rules come up. Like: "are you familiar with the terrain along your route" for VFR aircraft. Post accident band aid.
The FAA towers on the list are slightly more resilient. Many reasons there, but they are.
I works in a tower for years. There are services that we can provide that are valuable...some more mundane. Each airport has their own personalities, traffic levels, problems, and benefits. It is up to each of you, and unfortunately, the uneducated public to decide what you think is important.
As for myself, It will be expensive, but I will manage at Albuquerque Center. The time I am furloughed will be used productively to finish the Velocity and work on our Airport here. After all, Aviation, for me, IS an addiction I chose not to cure.
All have the right to your opinions. Nowhere in the constitution does it say you have the right to NOT be challenged or offended. This Country needs to get back to when it had pride, opinions, hard work and possibilities. Do not expect me to agree with you if you do not support these ideas, but you can expect me to listen and support your right to believe and state them.
