Andy,
Those combustor heaters work well and as you say are proven and even certificated. I however would not feel comfortable with it lit off up there in the nose of my bird at 12,500. The thought of even a well-controlled and certificated fire on board my aircraft while airborne opens up the imagination to too many possibilities/bad contingencies. Murphy's Law and all that...
Cold feet on this one? :)
