While I'm not flying, I haven't noticed that it runs on significantly after the trim switch has been released, so I'm guessing that this has only been used for the factory trim.  I think it uses the same (similar?) linear actuator as the speed brake, and I have noticed that it does run on a bit after the switch has been released.

Look at the drawing from Laurence Coen.  Dynamic braking is when the circuit does not simply disconnect a DC motor to stop it but additionally connects its two terminals together to act as a 'short-circuit' across the still turning motor (now acting as a generator) and causing it to stop dead.
