Maybe Long EZ's too, but I know for a fact that Velocity's are commonly used
by various aerospace contractors for military and government applications --
usually as prototypes, testbeds and demonstrators for something that will
not ultimately or necessarily be a Velocity when it goes to full production.


 

The contractors like to pick up Velocity's that, for what ever reasons, only
get half built or are involved in 'fender benders' and use them as a
starting point with heavy modifications for a new prototype or demonstrators
for as Mark says, drones, strike platforms, observation platforms,
aerodynamic testbeds, and other uses.  Some originally based on Velocity
platforms eventually even get over to Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.

 

They like the larger size of the Velocity that allows more flexibility for
adding extra fuel tanks and various types of highly classified as well as
more standard sensors -- for all the same reasons we all like the Velocity!

 

Too bad those guys can't participate directly on the Reflector and more
openly and actively with the homebuilder community -- we would all probably
push the envelope further and faster, but eventually we all still benefit,
it just takes a little longer for those types of interactions to occur
'under the radar' and less directly.

I think you are thinking of a Long EZ. The military has eyed the Long EZ for
many military applications: Drones, Strike and even Forward Observation.

I heard a rumor, and only a rumor since the military and government are
denying it, but this velocity is actually powered by a military surplus
pulse jet engine from the Aurora Project. I cannot stress enough, this is
only a rumor now.........
