REFLECTOR: ALX-9524 Alternator

Bill:

Have 520 hours on my alternator and have had 2 problems.  First was a broken diode lead (vibration fatigue) at 101 hours and toasted field windings at 345 hours.  Since then no more issues.  Have always been concerned about the operating temperature of the alternator.  It reaches crankcase (engine) temperature very quickly and is too hot to touch after even a short flight.  Recently saw an ad from Plane Power who have direct drive alternators.

The coolest crew car was an old police cruiser complete with spot light from Texarkana Regional Webb Field.
