REFLECTOR: Brake Linings

John, 

I would buy the brake tool. Buy the best one you can afford. And, Yes, I would buy the tool and not just the anvils. I have been replacing brake linings for years, and the tool really helps you align things and be able to see what you are doing. With a big vise, it would be very easy to overtighten the rivets and crack the lining. Never use a lining that you have cracked during installation!

Replacing the brake pads is not a big deal.  
A brake lining/rivet tool is recommended.  Ask one of the local A&P's to help you the first time.

I'ts time for new brake linings.  In the past I've sent them to Matco for new (riveted) linings.  Does anyone replace the linings themselves?
