Thanks for sharing your experience. Getting that prop speed down is 
important. I don’t think it’s much of an issue for me - my engine idle 
speed gets the prop down to about 500 rpm. Of course any firing of 
engine reduces the prop drag.

I haven’t considered Vance’s suggestion of shutting down the engine. 
That could make more drag as long as the prop would windmill; but if it 
stops, it has less drag than if windmilling.

The shutting down of the engine stops the idle thrust which is more 
thrust than most of us realize..... So if you have very low RPM around 
300 to 500, (possible with electronic ign but not recommended by the 
engine mfgs) this technique wont help much.

If you have a variable pitch prop and its in flat pitch, (zero thrust) 
It wont help there either. But for the rest of us guys carrying 700, 800 
to 1100 RPM or more with a fixed pitch prop, IT REALLY HELPS SLOW YOU DOWN.
