With a constant speed prop there are prop seals on the crankshaft, there 
are also lifter seals, oil pump seals, crankcase seals, etc. Maybe not 
the external crankshaft seal.  If the engine experiences too high an oil 
pressure things will blow. The limiter is limited by the viscosity of 
the oil.

My E225 had its oil temp probe at the filter housing.  My IO360 and 
TSIO520 have the probe in the remote cooler adapter. All three see the 
oil temp of the oil in the engine because the vernatherm bypasses a 
small amount of oil into the cooler line when closed.
