But which costs more to replace - brake pads or tires? Not to mention the
built in rumble strips when a tire is flat spotted.

It the brakes were really effective, we would be able to transfer the heat
to the big heat sink called the runway. Lock up the brakes and the heat
goes to interface between the tires and the runway. There you go. Lock the
brakes and save the pads.
