Doug,

 

While the "photo" is fake in that neither the aircraft nor the weird
buildings in the background exist in the real world, this was/is a real
research program at Boeing.  Search for "Blended Wing Body" (BWB) on
Boeing's website.  

 

You have the inspiration order backwards: Alan Shaw was inspired by the
Boeing program, not the other way around.
