Dave,

Until you get the nose oil cooler with circ fan installed, a heated seat cushion is an excellent starting point for staying unfrozen--just plug into the cig lighter.  If your backside is warm, the rest of you will follow.  It's strange but as long as the torso stays warm, the rest of your body will tolerate a lot of chilly insults.  eBlankets and eVests are icing on the cake.  I used to take a big, fluffy down jacket, good to minus a million degrees, and make a pocket for my feet with shoes off for good circulation--comfy.

As important as adding heat is stopping all air intrusions.  A big one for me, besides the elevator tube penetrations and sealing up the gap between the canard and canard bulkhead was putting a cover over the dual penetration where the push rods for the brakes goes through the bulkhead (conversion kit installed to separate rudder and brakes). 

Except for icing, winter is such great flying and good performance that it'd be a shame to let the Velo set in a hangar because a person dreaded a session in the deep freeze.

The family and I just flew back from FL to IL last night and about 
froze to death.  I am thinking about mounting an oil cooler somewhere, 
and recirculating cabin air through it with a small fan.  My thought is 
that recirculated 50 degree air moving slowly through the oil cooler 
will come out at a higher temp than -4 degree air blowing through at 
170 knots.  The heat just isn't adequate for OAT below 30-40, 
especially at night.

Has anyone else who has gone this route mind sharing their experience?
