I use  Dexron®-III Mercon® ATF  

in my brakes and gear ......  Works well and is like 5606...

Hi Mike
I Have used your method of black electricians tape to seal the METCO 
master cylinders.But experienced TEFLON tape dissolved when used with dot 
5.
Now We are converted to toe /Cleveland and 5606 fluid is used brakes and 
gear.
