REFLECTOR: Velocity Acquired by Rocket Racing League

Everyone at Velocity has been under a non-disclosure agreement with Rocket
Racing for the past several months to not talk about any of this until
contracts were signed, so I want to apologize to all of you that all of this
should come as a surprise.
Duane has made no secret that he has been entertaining offers to sell the
company for the past several years. Several groups made in-roads to purchase
the company - but none of them ever materialized into anything concrete. For
the past six months, we have been working closely with the Rocket Racing
League, and a deal has finally been hashed out and signed. I'm here to tell
you that all parties involved could not be more pleased.
For those of you at Sun 'n Fun, you might have heard the rumor mill at work.
You will all be able to read about the full details at the press conference
that will be held tomorrow in New York. I'm sure that my dad will want to
fill all of you in further when he gets back to Florida and has a chance to
post to the Reflector.
In the mean time though, I wanted to say a few things to assuage any
possible fears about "dealing with the new company" and fill everyone in on
some other things that will be going on:
1. Duane, Scott Swing, Scott Baker, myself, and everyone else currently part
of Velocity will still be handling the day to day operations of the company.
We're not going anywhere - we will be here to offer the same factory
support, parts support, and technical expertise that we always have.
2. As part of the merger with Rocket Racing we will be undertaking a huge
"upgrade" process in the way that we operate. We will now have the
opportunity to do a lot of things that we have been trying to do for the
last few years, but haven't had the time or the money. Namely: a vastly
upgraded parts supply-chain system that will enable us to deliver parts more
quickly with greater accuracy; a huge technical services upgrade which will
result in a complete builder-manual overhaul, and new parts manuals to
simplify and standardize the ordering process; new model development; new
website design which will result in better, more timely builder support, and
increased ability to order parts directly from the internet; new promotional
materials; and many other upgrades.
3. Most of you guys have noticed the new web-page. The guys who did the
design were on an extremely tight deadline to get everything out in time for
the press release. The old velocityaircraft.com was a *huge* web-site. So
some of the information didn't have an opportunity to be updated when these
guys had to take the site live. We will be working on it continually until
everything works as it should, looks as it should, and all information is
present. I've stressed to them the importance of the Builder Site, and due
to the size and amount of information - we have agreed to do the redesign in
two phases. The front page and overall design was Phase I. The builder site
will be Phase II. There will be a lot of new things on the builder site that
will increase the type and amount of information presented, and increase the
ability for all of us to communicate effectively the changes in the builders
manual that you all would like to see.
4. It's no secret to any of you in the Velocity community that Velocity,
Inc. is a small company and out of necessity we all wear a number of
different hats and get spread thin from time to time. Sometimes this means
that we're not able to return phone calls or emails as quickly as everyone
would like. Sometimes it means that parts aren't delivered as quickly as
everyone would like. Sometimes it means that people you would like to talk
to at the factory are out of town at airshows and such. We will now have the
opportunity to add a few people from the Rocket Racing fold to help out with
the day-to-day stuff, which will free up a lot of our key people to
concentrate on what they do best. Don't get me wrong - we're still going to
be extremely busy. But I'm confidant that we'll be able to serve the
Velocity Community more quickly and more efficiently.
To make a long story short, Velocity is still here. Same great family of
people that you've all grown to know over the years. The family is just
getting a little bigger. And better.

According to MSNBC News, Velocity has been purchased by the Rocket Racing
League and will be developing new luxury 4 and 6 place aircraft, some priced
at a million dollars. Has anyone heard details? I checked the Velocity site
and there is no mention of this.

I am using Tracy Crooks EC2 from his company Real World Solutions. I am
also using his PSRU and Engine Monitor. It is all designed specifically for
aviation use. Tracy has about 1650 hours on his RV-4 and is building an
RV-8 using a Mazda 20b (three rotor rotary).
Tracy is a retired electrical engineer, IIRC and is doing much to promote
alternative engines in aircraft, especially the rotary. He does provide his
PSRU and EC2 for Sube's as well.....as well as the EC2 for Lycs. You can
