REFLECTOR: flight simulator for Velocity

I hope they aren't saying you should do that on final!  That would be 
suicidal if you had to go around. Always Prop full forward on final!

As far as descending into the pattern,  keeping the RPM's low will help 
slow you down to a point. It will also inhibit cooling to a limited 
extent, though shock cooling is overrated in my opinion.  I wouldn't 
reduce them below what the prop and engine manuals require.

Once near the pattern, within 5 miles and a thousand feet or so, I 
always increase the RPM's to a climb setting so if I need to maneuver 
I'm set up for a power increase without having to worry about messing 
with the prop.

In my old bonanza and the T210 I fly, I will just keep the prop at 
cruise RPM, 2350, in the descent, pulling back the power in 4 to 5 inch 
increments on manifold pressure. 2 to 4 minutes between each pull.  Then 
when getting close I'll increase the RPM to 2500 and either reduce or 
raise the manifold pressure to what I think I'll need for pattern entry.

When I turn base I go full RPM as the power is reduced so much the prop 
is no longer constant speed, and I'm then set up for a go around.
