REFLECTOR: XLRG Kit with -5 upgrade and IO 540K for Sale

 The 540K was from a large number of twins flying in Mexico that were
converted to Turbines a few years ago. Some were bought by Aerocomp to use
but as you know they started to go Turbine. If you hear of someone buying
lots of jet engines, etc call them. This is always the best way I think to
buy.  I attend a few of the major aircraft parts auctions each year. The
only engine I would buy and expect it to be good at an auction is one that
had been rebuilt by a know overhaul company and then I often talk to the
overhaul company before buying the engine.  The very best deals I have ever
made is in buying project or used airplanes, twins. I love the Aztec and
they are very well priced.  Out of trade a plane I bought a D model project
for $30,000. It had two 540C (250hp) which are perfect for the XL. Engine
times were 260 hours since overhaul and 0 since top.  Sold one prop for
$16,000, put the other on my family Aztec and sold that prop for $5,000.
Long story short, sold remaining aircraft parts and then wound up with 2
free engines. The two engines removed from my family Aztec were donated to
the A&P school and installed on test stands fully operational.   WARNING. Do
not try this unless you are an A&P/IA or have one help you.  Most people
buying from crash or unknown engines loose. VERY OFTEN IT IS LESS EXPENSIVE
TO BUY A REBUILT ENGINE FOR $22,000 FROM A KNOWN COMPANY  THEN TO BUY AN
UNKNOWN ENGINE FOR $10,000.

With the cost of fuel now there are a number of flying Aztecs in the low
$40,000. They are worth more in parts then flying. "Big But ", you must know
what you are doing. If two of you go together is really works out better.

Also, aircraft stored, owners die. Barron Thomas is a source.   A friend,
A&P, just bought a Cessna 421 with twin turbo. Great aircraft, about
$27,000. After much research and inspection he spent 1 week in Montana
getting it legal to fly after 6 years in storage. Flew it back here and
returned it to full flying condition for about  $50,000. Mostly avionics. It
was worth more than $50,000 in parts alone.  All I can really say is find
your niche and go for it.   Johnny
