REFLECTOR: main gear legs

You are referring to a milled Aluminum part that is used to replace the lower 6" of the S-glass main gear legs. Velocity has adopted a highly technical name for the part. We call them "booties". If a gear leg becomes so overheated that the lower portion warps its shape, the booties provide a simple fix-it. The affected lower 6" of the gear leg is cut away and the booties are bonded and bolted into position. The booties are designed to return the landing gear to its original geometry - allowing RG gear legs to fit into the wheel well. The booties are not inexpensive; they run $980 for a set of (2). While this is costly, it represents a time and money savings vs. replacing a main gear leg due to extreme warpage. The factory normally keeps one pair in stock.

I saw one Velocity at the factory that looked like it had a steel sleeve wrapped around the lower foot or so of the gear legs. I wonder how well that works? It would help with the heat dissipation from the brakes.

  Anybody know about this one?

speaking of carbon wrapped gear legs- has anyone ever had a non-heat related main gear failure? Seems most of the hard landing damage occurs to the bolts and bulkhead area.....

The weight and balance that I presented the FAA at original certification was 3000 lbs. gross weight.
Gear legs are wrapped with carbon fiber and max landing weight 2700 lbs.
    My useful load 1000 lbs
We operate out of 5300 ft runway length at standard day felid elevation 4400 ft
Mack XL RG IO540 300 hp.
