Jerry,
The standard way of mounting the seat rails results - as you mentioned - in the seat height climbing upwards as the chair is adjusted to its forward position.
Velocity designed the seat rails to accomodate as many body types as possible - the rationale being, someone with shorter legs likely likely appreciates a slightly higher chair for better vis over the instrument panel.
I've seen some owners modify the standard seat rails by inverting the mechanism - resulting in a linear movement without an elevation change.  See sketch.

  We also have noted the steep seat incline.  I found that it is very difficult to slide the seat forward because you have to "climb" the incline.  I have not done anything to remedy this, but am considering lowering the front by cutting and re-welding.

  I put one of my seat assemblies together last night and made the backrest angle reclined about 10 degrees from the seat base. I then took this assy and placed it on top of one of my front seat track rails. This made the seat assembly reclined to far aft to be comfortable for a front seat. This is the same angle that is used for the rear rails also but is probably needed for head clearance for the back seat passengers. It looks like an additional 1 inch will need to be added to the rear of the seat rail assy to bring the front seat to a proper level. I am interested in what others have done or added to level the front seats or am I seeing something wrong?
