Mack,

All true.   Just to be clear, in FAR 43 Appendix D, there is no 
requirement for an IA to sign said inspection.  Its just a recommended 
list of inspection items. A pretty useful list.

This topic of inspection and major changes to experimental's comes up 
every 6 months or so.  And no matter how often you put the facts in 
front of them, there are always folks that refuse to give up their 
erroneous beliefs.  The only problem with that is they continue to 
spread these OWT's to the less informed and round and round we go.

I was lucky a few years ago when I had my O/L's updated.  The FSDO 
inspector  knew how to read the FAR's, and was very clear that the FAA 
in an official capacity didn't want to know about any inspections or 
changes I made to my plane. That was "my" responsibility and only "my" 
responsibility as spelled out in my O/L's and the FARS's.
