REFLECTOR: Velocity Speeds

Don't think you will be getting a definitive answer from the factory on that
one guys....

I've asked the question in the past and, from memory, the general gist of
the answer - apart from every wing having it's sweet spot (beyond which the
laws of diminishing returns rapidly apply)-  is that the current end of the
green arc are indicated so that most people don't get false expectations of
what they can reliably achieve with the airframe. Of course there are
exceptions but not everybody can afford or chose to feed the fire breathing
monsters that Kurt, Scott and a few others are nurturing....

And then there's the infamous tale (don't try this at home folks!) related
to me while at the factory, of somebody attempting a loop, turning it into a
split S and momentarily establishing a new VNE of 270kts for their airframe
without flutter....

That would be a good question for the factory; they are now making the
Rocket Racing League airframes, which are highly likely to exceed 200 KIAS
towards the end of their "boost" phase.

I thought the Velocity was limited to approx 200 kn (indicated).........
It seems to me that you and Pat must be exceeding that limit.  As a
"newbee" I would like to learn what is needed to expand the upper limit
beyond 200kn ( other than more power)

And Rich is fast. he beat me by 24 seconds after 500 miles. But it was
unfair because he had a very sharp navigator. His Dad.  Oh well, there is
always next year.
There were some pretty fast velocity airplanes in the race. Pat Shea
averaged 247 mph and that was with about 20-25 mph head wind.
The Airventure Cup was a great experience. I am looking forward to next
year and having more Velocity airplanes
