Craig, I think the best way to start an injected engine is to go full rich
and full throttle followed by the fuel pump on until fuel flow is confirmed
by fuel flow meter (or count of 3 to 5). Then pull the mixture to off and
the throttle open only about a 1/4". Crank the engine and when it fires
move the mixture in evenly. This works every time. For hot starts, don't
prime the engine with the electric pump, just crank until it fires, them
move mixture in to rich. This system will never flood the engine with excess
fuel (unless you count too long).
CHT's are mostly controlled by airflow, power setting, and mixture. During
ground idle they should not exceed 400F, but can if you're doing high speed
taxi testing. You can go to 475F, but that's way too high. The ECI guy told
me to stay below 425F for a long lasting engine. Also, new engine can run a
little hotter.
IMHO oil temps should be below 210F before T/O on a first flight because
they have a tendency to climb rapidly if you don't have adequate cooling.
The max is 245F which gives you 35F of increase and will allow a quick go
around.
