REFLECTOR: unwanted off topic stuff- killing the reflector (not)

I disagree about the forum dying from unwanted side discussions-  unlike a
lot of other forums- this one has a definite and focused purpose- and
especially with the demise of the Velocity views (sorry , I am still
mourning that (poor) decision) this forum is the best place for builders to
get VERY pertinent and VERY important information- they are not going
anywhere unless they sell their kits/aircraft or act like children and take
their toys and go home- personally, I don't mind the off topic stuff to
terribly much- I just delete all of the posts with  subject lines that don't
interest me- like anything that reads "Franklyn" (no offence to Franklyn
folks) - but that is a good example- there is a minority of Franklyn owners
here, and sometimes there are very extended discussions about problems or
questions about that engine- hey: good for them!- it has as much bearing on
my project as the global warming stuff (which I agree should be posted
elsewhere) but I am really quick with my delete button, and can clean that
stuff out of my inbox in seconds- no big deal for me- don't really see why
it is such a bother to some others- I will still be here posting even if
everyone else goes home.

I fly a FG and have to sift through many many emails about RGs.  I know how
to use my delete button.

The sender was advised and agreed to no more emails yet you still had to
offer your opinion and then threaten to leave the forum. You simply could
have sat back and observed the outcome. It seems to me that you need to
discuss your position on this matter more than the original sender. Let it
go or you go, but let's not spend any more time on this as I can't bear to
read things like "create a tornado to support your position".

It not that one side or the other is taking a side - I have my opinion, and
I'll argue it in the appropriate forum.  I'm bailing because I don't want to
stand around and watch another good forum die.  There are a few off topic
discussions that can kill a forum, 
this one is right up there with abortion.   I once saw a disaster 
preparedness forum degenerate into lawsuits over Pedophile Priests in 
the Catholic Church.   The lawsuits were thrown out, of course, but 
the forum is dead, there hasn't been anything posted there in months.

When I was growing up my parents were political activists.  They had
barbecues every other week, and invited dozens of people.  A LOT of them
were activists on the other side.  A wonderful time was had by all.  Just
inside the front door there was a sign that read "No Politics.  No
Religion."  These days I'd add "No Diet Stuff" (The Vegans can get in your
face) but the sentiment is still the same.

I'll check back in a couple of months and see if there's anything (or
anyone) left.
