Is your oil cooler face basically perpendicular to the incoming air flow?
If not this could cause  some flow turbulence.

Well; yes.  The cooler is roughly 35 degrees to the wing chord, and the
airflow is roughly 55 degrees to the chord.

I guess I should have referenced one of them as 'negative'.  They add up to
90 degrees.
