Hi Jim,

The evaporator sees 100 to 150 psi when the system is hot and turned off.  The charts say R12 will be 234 PSI at 150 degrees.   http://www.chillers.com/PT%20charts%20for%20refrigerants.htm

Again, I'd guess the evaporator is rated at 300-500 psi easily.

  Are you sure about your burst pressures on an evaporator?  The Evaporator is on the low pressure side of the system and are normally not too robust in construction since their main purpose is to let the high pressure gas expand to a low pressure.  The condenser is on the high pressure side and is probably rated at 2-300#.
