Those are very nice.  However; I'd guess that if the bolt is getting bent,
the cable tension is too high when the gear is retracted (improperly
adjusted rod-end in the cylinder rod, or too thin rod-stop bushing); and
could lead to other risks.  

 

So make sure the stop and travel are set up correctly, and consider install
these plates anyway.  Since the gear leg travel is not likely to be exactly
the same for both legs, this plate/pivot setup better handles any
misalignment when the gear is fully retracted.

While looking at Richard Gwinn's construction photos on the factory

website, he mentioned that the A&P at the factory had noticed that

some planes were coming in with a slightly bent bolt where the main

hydraulic cylinder connects to the gear leg cables. He modified the

through-bolt idea to incorporate two steel plates. This seemed like

an excellent idea to go with, so a machinist friend made me two 1/8"

thick stainless steel plates. Since the center joint is larger than

the smaller joints on the ends, I had him make the plates with bosses

for the smaller joints so that no spacers were required inside the

plates. The plates came out beautifully, and I put a photo of the

installation, along with a close up of the plate, on my website. A

The machinist said if anyone else wanted a set these plates, he'd be

willing to crank them out on the CNC for $30 a pair. So if you're
