Right on!! 

Take it from one who rushed right out to get a deal on an engine and panel 8
years ago. Now the engine has 8 years of rust and my brand new,
state-of-the-art panel is a museum piece. I don't even want to think what
shape my gyros are in. 

The problem is, you never know at the outset whether you will build your kit
in under 2 years, over 10, or never finish at all. Most builders take longer
than they expect. With new developments virtually every month, it's always
best to wait for the last possible moment to buy the engine and avionics.
