REFLECTOR: HYDRAULIC PUMP CYCLES

Hi Larry,

Technically, the Hi & Low pressure switches should be
adjusted to approximately the following pressures:
High pressure (gear up) 1,100 psi, Low pressure (gear
down) 600 psi. These pressures are not that critical,
however, without a pressure gauge you're at the mercy
of the factory settings. Cycling can occur if the the
pressure is set too low. If your pump is cycling when
the gear is up, my suggestion would be to increase the
High Pressure switch by turning the screw head on top
of the switch clockwise in 1/4 turn increments.  If
it's cycling when the gear is down, try the same on
the Low Pressure switch. Make note of the screw
positions before adjusting so you can always return to
the original settings. Increasing the pressure on
either side of the system should not affect the gears
operation but obviously cycle the gear with the plane
on jacks to verify this. If your pump cycles while the
gear is in both the up and down positions, that would
be a little more suspicious and you may have an
internal leak in one of the cylinders (main gear, nose
gear, nose gear door) or the dump valve.
