REFLECTOR: DOT 5 Compatability

I don't want to simply add to the confusion, but I thought Dot 7 was what  we 
used to have a fluid compatible with the entire system. It is available at  
Harley shops as it is what they use for their cycles. DOT 3 is incompatible 
with  the rubber in the brakes or master cylinders, DOT 5 incompatible with the 
other.  DOT 7 works well with both. Isn't that the rule? That's what I have 
been  following and it works fine after nearly 4 years.
