  I'm going to avoid backup batteries.  Batteries are heavy and they don't fail.  I'm looking for a small backup alternator.  Alternators (or more precisely, their drive belts) do fail, and they don't weigh as much as batteries.  I'm looking for a small, light weight alternator that even if it won't tote the whole load will at least extend the battery life to [close to] fuel exhaustion.

  Or perhaps come up with an alternator that doesn't need a belt ... Jim S.

    Seriously If you are going to have two batteries in the nose you are going to have to make some serious modifications. Not much room in there. I guess you could move the nose oil cooler to the wing root but then you need to do something about the cabin heat. A smaller battery could go on top of the canard but then it is really in the cabin. I wish  had taken Bob's course I probably would have done things a little different
