Tom,

Keeping yourself and the spouse motivated can be a
problem...
As the years go by, it seems that the work doesn't produce
results that are visable to the wife.
( she noticed that the top was on, and when the plane got
wheels, after that the hours just don't show)

Things I've found that help / hurt...
Pick a set of pants / shirts to use.  The wife gets upset if
you get epoxy on a  "good"  shirt!
Try to keep the dust out of the house. I use several box
fans to blow the dust away from the door.
Remember that the plane and your marrage are both long term
projects, you have to work on both.

I try once a year to take her to see someone else's projet. 
Preferably one farther along.
Last May we went to the SWRFI  near San Antoino,  She got to
see a flying Velocity, and do the 
river walk / night life thing.
The year before we went to see a fellow builder (Don Hamm), 
in Dallas.
In every case, the people have been wonderfull, and
inspiring.
It shows her (and you) that this can be finished, and that
the payoff of having 
a flying Velocity is great.

In return she's willing to help mix epoxy and smooth the
squiggles in the triax.
(If you can find a way to get a spouse to pick up a sanding
block, let me know)
