REFLECTOR: GEAR RETRACTION

The problem is, that the over center linkage is a bit longer just before it locks in place.  Else you wouldn't get the lock as it goes over center.

If you covered the upper gear legs with a bit of extra duct tape, then the amount of grinding would be less.  

But I indeed had the same problem.  The gear would sometimes lock, sometimes it would just sit there, a slight nudge and then it would lock.  Some grinding to the sockets to give the over center mechanism the room it needs will fix the problem.
