Rich Guerra and Malcolm Collier approached the nose cooler and cabin heat
issue differently. Instead of putting another oil cooler in the cabin for
heat as has been suggested lately, they simply redesigned the nose oil
cooler air plumbing to be cabin air recirculating, and therefore achieved
the same result. Rich has a bunch of photos and a discussion of the design
at the bottom of his "Systems Work" chapter on his website:

    http://www.rguerra.com/velocity/

In their design, the source of air for the nose cooler is always cabin air
(as driven by a "bilge pump" type of air blower), and there is no fuselage
side NACA scoop inlet as is normally used. The oil cooler heated outlet air
is either recirculated back into the cabin or vented overboard via the
standard bottom outlet vent, depending on the position of an internal
flapper valve. Rich says about his results:

"Have flown in winter at 10-12K with OAT's around 0 - 2 degrees C and
have been comfortable in light shirts. This is without good insulation as
interior still hasn't been done and I do have some air leaks around doors."

One great spin-off benefit is that the air blower can also be used on the
ground to force air through the nose cooler and help cool the engine on the
ground on hot summer days or long ground run-ups.
