Mack,
This information is not entirely correct. The RG legs always had =
gussets and were always heat treated. And ... while there might have =
been a problem with a defective weld on your gear leg, I don't think it =
is accurate to make a blanket statement that all of the gear legs had a =
"poor weld". There are a lot of factors that speak to the performance =
of the nose gear strut. Remember, the XL nose gear strut is designed =
for a 2,700# gross weight aircraft. I'm sure that the higher gross =
weight of your aircraft adds additional stresses to the landing gear =
assembly. I'll be posting a more comprehensive response to the =
questions being discussed about gussets and heat treatment of nose gear =
struts. I'm glad that you like the current gusset style.

Please understand. Velocity has four types nose gear legs R.G.and =
fixed gear.XL and Standard. Then early legs did not have gussets, Then =
they had gussets at the pivot bushing and poor weld.=20
(That is the one that failed for us.)
Now Velocity Has a completely new gusset design and higher quality
Welding. We have over fifty landing now and no problem.
Call the factory.
