Hello velocity people,
I just thought I would fill you guys in on the accident/incident reported on
Velocity N173DT a couple of days ago. N173DT was built by myself and three
other guys and first flown on July 29th, 1997. It is a 173RG longwing with
the standard clamshell door. The plane was flown for 5 years and then sold
to Paul Gold from Florida last September. Paul was the pilot during the
landing at Boca Raton that did not go well. According to Paul, the landing
was normal up to the point where the nose fork casting separated from the
nose gear strut. Apparently, the casting broke apart as the nose gear was
lowered. Paul believes the casting may have had a crack or something that
caused it to prematurely fail. The aircraft is repairable and no injuries
occurred. The only reason a report was filed on this incident is that the
news media was at the airport, along with the NTSB and FAA. According to
Paul, the NTSB was the driving force on the report, not him.

Good Q, Tech. keep in mind, if there are no injuries, and no "significant
damage", Theese things do not need to be reported.
As The Manager here at Mid Valley Airpark, I have found that many people do
not know what does and does not need to be reported (this includes by
airport
managers). Sometimes the pilot doesn't have control over what is reported,
even if it does Not need to be (someone in the tower or airport calls the
FAA...
etc). If you do have a say, and noone is injured and the damage is (in your
mind) not significant.... Do Not Report it!.. It only adds to the paperwork
hell
we all live in. :)
