I just talked to my Interstate battery dealer recently, and he said that
although Interstate (actual mfg is Johnson Controls?) supplied the
DieHard batteries for Sears for many years, several years ago there was
a contract dispute, and Sears went to Exide instead... after the failure
rates went way up apparently, they returned to Interstate as the
supplier about 2 years ago... perhaps you might want to check with them?
BTW, they also carry the Optima, which is an SLA... they now have one a
"little" smaller (only 32#) with about the same CCA (650@0F, 870@32) as
their standard big one (37#, 750CCA@0, 980@32) but it is an expensive
line ($95 for the smaller one, $135 for the larger). But, it is a
starved-electrolyte SLA (I was told they are used by the military, who
even mounts it upside-down in some applications!), and also has *very*
low resistance (I've measured it), might be just right - but it's a
"Group 34" which is about an inch longer (9.4L x 6.8W x 7.6D) than your
group 26. Not cheap though.
